Mike is a Professeur at the Sorbonne, University of Paris 1 and the Editor-in-Chief of Event Management Journal (EMJ) - the leading international peer reviewed academic journal for the study and analysis of events, and the oldest, founded in 1993 and based in New York, USA.

Prior to founding the Events and Festivals Institute (EFI), he was Director of Research, Intelligence, and Education at Trivandi, a leading major events and sports consultancy, based in Central London. Before Trivandi, Mike was a tenured professor at University of Central Florida (USA) – USA #1 ranked university for study of events, and Head of Department at the University of Surrey (UK) – UK and Europe’s #1 ranked university for study of events, where he was also the Director of UK Olympic Studies Centre (UK) – official centre of the International Olympic Committee.

Over his career, Mike has developed and managed 30+ events, sports, tourism, hospitality and business related courses; created the “Major Events 101” course for the Trivandi Academy; commentated on international and national TV, radio and newspapers, including the BBC, Sky News, and The Guardian; regularly provides strategic advisory and impact evaluation for events and governments; and has authored 50+ peer-reviewed publications, books, and thought pieces on event-related development, and he is the Editor for Routledge’s international book series: “How Events Transform Society”.
